House of Mind: The Neuroscience Behind Near Death... →
houseofmind: So today I found a neuroscience review dealing with a far-out topic: the neuroscience underlying near death experiences (NDE) and other “paranormal” phenomena such as experiences seeing bright lights, meeting the dead or being convinced that you are dead. According to Mobbs and Watt (2011),…

I'm 23 and I have lots of joint pain.
Oh my god, my knees. I don’t remember the last time they were this painful when I was just lying down.

The Autism Enigma: Nature Neuroscience Special... →
houseofmind: Nature Neuroscience, one of the world’s leading peer reviewed scientific journals, has put out a whole issue dedicated to autism and autism-spectrum disorders that is freely available to everyone. I happen to have a hard copy of it and it’s a comprehensive collection of all the recent advances in that field. Click on the link to access a copy of the issue, which includes news,...

Used our new washer and dryer tonight. I did 3 loads, all under different settings, and finally got to wash my handwash items because the washer has that as a setting. Awesome. Tomorrow I’ll be helping my dad for awhile in the morning probably, and catch the beginning of the game before I head to tutoring and our first dress rehearsal for Finian’s Rainbow! I wish I had the ability to...

If it weren't for rehearsal, I'd be losing it...
Sort of having a rough night. Tights are completely ripped, phone is being slow, and tutoring for tomorrow was canceled. That’s the third time a session has been canceled just this week. As the semester continues, it might be harder for them to get sessions with me. It’s about time I made myself and my academic success a priority.

Some things that will be achieved in the next year
I’ll know where I’m going for my PhD, if anywhere. My thesis will be completed. For real, this time. I’ll have bought a new laptop. This one is dead and will be scrapped accordingly. I’ll also probably purchase a new phone when my upgrade rolls around. And then I’ll move. Goodbye San Jose, goodbye tutoring gig. Hello Future? However, the steps to get to this...

– JON STEWART, on members of Congress considering the SOPA and PIPA bills exasperatedly calling for “nerds” to help them understand SOPA and PIPA, on The Daily Show. Why does Congress bother convening at all? (via inothernews) I wonder if they’d use the word ‘Nerds’ if the hearings were about,...

Canadian Gov.'t Dissolves Every Same-Sex Marriage... →
stfuconservatives: Thousands of Americans have gone to Canada over the past few years to get married. As of today, their marriages are nullified, thanks to conservative Prime Minister Stephen Harper. Dan Savage is one of the people whose marriage was unceremoniously dissolved last night. ETA: The original post stated that it was because of Harper’s new policy. That was incorrect, and I’m sorry...
