Quick bragging.
Writing my thesis…not done, but close. I’m at 56 pages, 30 pages of solid text. I still have a couple things to write about in my results section, about half of my discussion, and figures and tables to insert in the paper. Otherwise, this baby is ready for another round of advisor edits. Boo-ya.

My silver lining to my most recent rejection from...
Dr. Elaine Hatfield (famous social psychologist, and the professor I chose to work with if admitted) said I was a wonderful student, I’ll make a great social psychologist, I had great recommendations, and she was interested in my research. To top it off, she signed it “Elaine” and asked me to keep her updated with my career. My rejection was ONLY because of logistics that were...

Stephen Sondheim on Leonard Bernstein
Terry Gross: Did you learn anything working with Bernstein and watching him work?
Stephen Sondheim: Oh, sure. A great deal. Yes. Mainly I learned something about courage. I learned – Lenny was never afraid to make big mistakes. He was never afraid to fall off the top rung of the ladder and I learned by implication that the worst thing you can do is fall off a low rung. If you're going to make a mistake, make a huge one.

Just an update, I guess.
I keep hearing rejection from these programs, and it is entirely disheartening. I have 3 left, and I’m finding it impossible to stay positive. So in the meantime, I’m applying for jobs up in the Stockton/Sacramento area. Hopefully SOMETHING will come through. Also, I’m making progress on my thesis. Getting ready to set a defense date - writing up the discussion, tables/graphs,...
